FAQ

“Do I need to buy Neptune Dragon to crown this ranking?”

No. It doesn’t matter that we just got 700k MP for free. If you are omega whale enough to buy Neptune Dragon just for this ranking (since he has 0 applications anywhere), you would not be asking this question. Here is Reco crowning without poisoning Cerberus or Wadatsumi.

“Can this inheritable poison replace Neptune Dragon?”

Jace: Yes. 70x poison.

Manticore: No. You would need a base with 23,000 attack.

Rathian: Yes. 50x poison.

Rodin/Rodin Tamazo: Yes. Make sure the 10x poison kills and not the 50x nuke.

Neptune: No. You would need a base with 23,000 attack.

Jormungandr and Jorm-Ullr: No. You would need a base with 230,000 attack.

Chibi Lilith: No. Who even has this?

“Why did my Tsubaki fail to kill Zeal?”

Check:

  • Did you 1c 4match? (unless running 3 rathalos version)
  • Were all 4 orbs in the 4match enhanced orbs?
  • Did you skyfall/accidentally make another combo?
  • Is Tsubaki level 109?
  • Is your latent setup EXACTLY like the one in the image?
  • Did you roll the dragon killer super awakening on Tsubaki?
  • Is Gigas equip +297 and max level? Just +99 attack does not work.

“Is 1 atk++ latent the same as 2 atk+ latents?”

No. 2 atk+ is +2% while 1 atk++ is +3% base attack stat.

“How do I get an unplussed Tyra Bean? The second build uses it.”

You can’t. The Tyra Bean in the image represents anything with between 20 and 99 attack inclusive. Many alternatives exist.

“Does Jize/Riza/YangGuifei/etc work on Zeal?”

Technically, yes. However this time around, buttons hurt more than they help, so realistically no. See analysis for the explanation.

Analysis

Rikuu Ranking 2 is the second installment of Indigo Ranking where people unironically purchase Neptune Dragon. Remember that if the number of floors is more than 11, minimal combos and maximizing speed yields the best results. There is only 1 preemptive attack in the whole dungeon, so Verse 1c yields the highest scores.

As for subs, the majority of the dungeon is dragons, so killer subs like Kiri, Tsubaki, and Mercury are seen in every team. Other killer sticks like Beach Valkyrie saw use as well. Other possible killer sticks include Ragdra, King Tyrra, CIEL, etc.

Damage cap is done on the Red/Blue/Green Dragons on F2/3/4 with the dragon killer sub that they are weak against (eg. Kiri vs F2) or with Mercury on Beyzul.

F1-4 is 1c with mass attack badge. Mythlits die to 2 pings. F6-8 is 1c, so is F10-12. F14 Rikuu has a null shield, but his health is 1/6 of its threshold. 1c kills him. The problem floors are F5, F9, and F13.

Both F5 enemies have 8c shields. Using a bicolor board can work, but the 2 Cerberus are actually low HP enough that you can poison them, and then 0c to kill for maximum speed. Note that buttons do not work well here. Poisons do not count as floor skipping, since you still have to match, so they do not subtract 5k from your final score. Buttons are only good if the time gained is worth more than the 5k lost, aka high combo count teams. When your combo average is 1, buttons hurt more than they help.

F9 is another combo shield. This time, it is only 5c, so a speedy 5c will do just fine for those who just want to be in crown range. Bicolor swipe works too. To go even faster, this floor is low HP enough to be poison 0c killed as well.

F13 is Zeal, who is the real challenge (and galaxy brain) of this dungeon. His 100+ damage void + small hit makes you unable to deal with him in a timely fashion unless you do 1 of 3 things. Strategy 1 is to use a bicolor with healing (Yog) and VDP with Verse’s full multiplier. Strategy 2 uses a weak base with 20 < attack value < 100 (Beans, Carbuncle, etc) and a 1x poison inherit (Jormungandr, Jormungandr-Ullr, Chibi Lilith), then 1c hearts or 1c and auto heal back to full. (or 1 attack base + 50/70x poison, 3-9 attack base with 10x poison, etc) Strategy 3 is the fastest: Tsubaki’s damage is carefully calculated to do just enough to kill zeal without any help from actives, then auto heals heal the damage Zeal dealt. JP #1 used a level 109 Tsubaki. Two Gigas equips bring the total enhanced orbs damage to a point where a 4 match of fires with 4 enhances does 78 damage to Zeal. There are other ways to achieve 20 < x < 100 damage as well: JP #2 and #3 used 3 Rathalos equips. Their Tsubaki had this setup:

This 3 Rathalos setup allows you to 3match with 3 enhance instead of 4match. A third way to control Tsubaki damage is shown in the videos at the bottom of the document.

A lot of JP players found that they had an active space left unused (usually this happens when you do not poison Wadatsumi). The boards that the Mythlits on F1-4 give you make it so that you have barely any time to see where the orbs are before you 1c. (JP #1 literally blind swiped btw) Many JP players used an empty slot for a lock active like Jord or Indigo so that they could 1c faster.

Matching bonuses have been announced for NA, but it does not affect our ability to copy JP because the point values are too low to change any strategy.

Sample Builds

Team Breakdown:

Base Verse (Hakuryu)/Neptune Dragon (Gigas equip)/Mercury (Jace)/Kiri (Claymore equip)/Tsubaki (Gigas equip)/ Verse (Shotel equip)

Mass attack badge

*edit: I forgot auto heal latents don’t count plusses so this build will need some more auto heals*

  • This team is copied straight from JP #1. Many other variants can work. Check the example videos at the bottom of the document.
  • Base Verse is used for less pings. JP #2 and 3 used 2 Base Verses. This is extreme optimizing and is not required to crown.
  • Neptune Dragon is any poison strong enough to kill Cerberus. Can be replaced by an inheritable poison over a strong base.
    • Strong bases with SB include You Yu, R/x Dantalion, Ryo Sakazaki, Athena Non, etc
    • If you have none of the replacement options listed below and are considering purchasing Neptune Dragon, remember that buying a 300k MP Monster that is complete trash and will only ever be used for this ranking is basically flexing how whale you are. If you do not already have nearly everything in the game this is almost always a terrible purchase. You can bicolor Cerberus and do just fine.
    • See FAQ for more poison options.
  • Mercury is a dragon killer stick, also kills Phoenix with attacker killer.
  • Kiri is a dragon killer stick, also kills Gigas with physical killer.
  • lv109 Tsubaki is a dragon killer stick, also kills Zeal with 200 iq.
  • Hakuryu is balance killer equip, helps with damage on Kamui.
  • Gigas orb enhance equips are part of the Tsubaki damage on Zeal.
  • Jace is the strongest inheritable poison in the game (70x), although there are possible alternatives.
  • Claymore is physical killer equip, helps with damage on Gigas. Can be Kopis equip.
  • Shotel is healer killer equip, helps with 1c color options on Tornado Holy Dragon. Completely optional.
  • tpa/2c for damage cap on F2 and F3 may not be needed if there is an oe in the match left over from Mythlit transforming a fire oe

Dungeon Breakdown:

F1: 1c any color but fire

F2: 1c water/wood/dark (2c or tpa water if you want to cap Kiri here)

F3: 1c water/wood/dark (2c or tpa wood if you want to cap Mercury here)

F4: 1c water/wood/dark (2c with 1c fire if you want to cap Tsubaki here)

F5: Neptunedra 0c

F6: 1c wood/light

F7: 1c any color

F8: 1c wood

F9: Jace 0c

F10: 1c any color, but light needs tpa

F11: 1c water

F12: 1c fire(with some oe)/water/wood (2c or tpa wood if you want to cap mercury here)

F13: 1c tpa fire (4 oe), 78 damage on Zeal

F14: 1c fire(with some oe)/water

Team Breakdown:

Verse (Dia equip)/Tengu (Indigo)/Neptune Dragon/Tyrra Bean (Jormungandr)/Kiri (Claymore equip)/ Verse (Hakuryu)

Mass attack badge

  • This team is a more niap variant. Many other teams can work. Check the example videos at the bottom of the document.
  • Tengu is a monster with lots of SB
  • Neptune Dragon is any poison strong enough to kill Cerberus. (Most common replacement is Jace inherited over a strong base, but any poison that is strong enough will work.)
    • Strong bases with SB include You Yu, R/x Dantalion, Ryo Sakazaki, etc
    • See FAQ for other poison options.
  • Tyrra Bean represents any base with low enough attack to poison Zeal.
    • Other options include Carbuncles, metal dragons, Moogle, etc
  • Kiri is a dragon killer stick, also kills Gigas with physical killer.
  • Dia is auto heal equip, helps you heal after poisoning Zeal, even if hearts are not matched. Can be Grodin Equip.
  • Indigo is orb lock, helps with 1c speed on F1-4. Can be Bufu or Jord.
  • Jormungandr is a 1x poison to kill Zeal.
  • Claymore is physical killer equip, helps with damage on Gigas. Can be Kopis equip.
  • Hakuryu is balance killer equip, helps with damage on Kamui.

Dungeon Breakdown:

F1: Indigo, 1c water/light/dark

F2: 2c or tpa water to cap Kiri here

F3: 1c water/tpa light/dark

F4: 1c water/tpa light/dark

F5: Neptunedra 0c

F6: 1c water/light

F7: 1c water/light/dark

F8: 1c tpa light

F9: 5c anything

F10: 1c water/dark

F11: 1c water

F12: 1c water

F13: Jormungandr, 1c anything

F14: 1c water

Bonus:

The team I will be running

*Athena Non is an easy way to get Rathian/Rodin to work vs Wadatsumi, but exchanging for Non just to crown this ranking is a terrible idea for most people since she has nearly no application outside of a solo button base. Remember that you can just fast 5c or bicolor swipe Wadatsumi and do just as well.*
