Hello everyone, and welcome to my guide. I’m Cinderspawn, a very active member of the OPTC subreddit Discord server (I partly manage the #optc-rerolls channel in there) and I made this guide to help new players get started with their accounts. Are there already a good amount of Rerolling/Getting Started guides for OPTC out there? Yes there are, but I find that many of them lack information and fail to account for several important things, including dedication to the game and playstyle.
Note that this is only a guide for GLOBAL One Piece Treasure Cruise; if you are looking for something like this for the Japanese version of the game, then that tells me you most likely do not know how the game works yet (i.e. do not have a grasp of important game mechanics like buffs and debuffs and how to circumvent them, how to determine what units are good, etc.) so I suggest to give up on that until you learn the game on Global and start clearing tougher, non-story mode content, which could take up to a month depending on how much you play (this game is more complicated than it seems, and although this piece of advice is a bit harsh if you really wanted to start a Japanese account, I have seen FAR too many new players start JP, not know what the hell they are doing, and end up giving up because they can’t read what the game says and/or clear anything significant on Extra Island). However, this decision is up to you in the end.
Without further ado, let’s begin! Move on to the next page.
What is rerolling, and how much effort should I put into it?
Rerolling is a common practice in Gacha Games, and OPTC is no different. Because a lot of incredible units come from summoning with Rainbow Gems (the paid currency of OPTC, also obtainable through story mode/dailies/chopperman missions/extra island quests but aren’t abundant whatsoever, especially when you finish story mode), you can take advantage of the fact that you are given some Rainbow Gems upon account creation to try your luck pulling, and if you don’t get anything good, restarting your account and using the gems you get in the beginning to pull again.
Doing this over and over again is called rerolling. Recently on Global OPTC however, a new method of rerolling has been introduced via the Straw Hat Retry Mail. This method sacrifices some gems we got in the mail immediately after finishing the tutorial (used to be over 50, now it’s usually less than 20) for a simpler in-game method of rerolling for Straw Hat legends.
The pool of legends here is far smaller than the pool of legends available on a Sugo Fest, but you simply need to press “Retry” if you don’t like the 10 units that you received, and can keep doing this over and over again until you’re finally happy.
We can sit here and argue whether this method is better than the old method of rerolling (restarting your account, potentially completing the tutorial again if you aren’t on a rooted mobile device/do not have access to a computer, and doing a multi-pull on the current Sugo Fest with your 50 starting gems), but we cannot change what Bandai has done, and more importantly, the old method of rerolling is NOT COMPLETELY DEAD! Of course, whether you actually want to do this or not, depends on your individual situation (i.e. the option that you pick below).
Now here’s the part where you decide which path you want to take. All the options assume you are a new player. Pick the one that most suits you:
- You’re unsure of whether this game is something you want to play long term, and aren’t willing to spend a bunch of time rerolling, but ARE willing to restart your account and progress if you do end up liking the game?
- You’re unsure of whether this game is something you want to play long term, and aren’t willing to spend a bunch of time rerolling, but ARE NOT willing to restart your account and progress if you do end up liking the game? Note that this is the least-advised option unless you really value your time and want to get into the game ASAP with an acceptable start.
- You are willing to spend some time (up to a couple of days) rerolling for a great start, but don’t exactly need the perfect start? This is the recommended option for f2p players that balances the quality of the reroll with time spent rerolling.
- You are willing to spend a LOT of time rerolling for a near perfect/perfect start (up to several days if you’re unlucky)? This is the best option for f2p players, but you need to be patient and have time on your hands. It is HIGHLY recommended that you have access to a computer if this is the option you choose.
You picked an option? Great, remember the number, and proceed to the next page.
- Following a Path
A tl;dr for what you should do depending on which option you choose:
- Do not waste time rerolling and just dive right into the game. Pull with your rainbow gems whenever you want, and enjoy the story mode of OPTC for now; you will become an option (3) or (4) if you end up liking the game, and you can come back to read this guide at that point.
- Reroll on the Straw Hat Retry mail until you get G4 v2 (you don’t have to look for any other legends, you just need G4 v2), and spend the gems you get from going through story mode on the beginner sugo (multi-pulls).
- Reroll on the Straw Hat Retry mail until you get one of the following combos: G4 v2 + Legend Nami, G4 v2 + Sanji v2, or Legend Robin + Legend Nami (if you’re willing to sacrifice account strength for the sake of waifus; this is the least-recommended option but they have some synergy together so it’s worth noting). You generally want to be saving your gems if you with one of the first two combos (not recommended to pull on beginner sugo if you can help it). However, if you get frustrated at all rerolling for one of the first two combos (especially if you’re rerolling manually on a single phone/similar device), it’s okay to settle for G4 v2 + one or two other more common legends (notably Franky, Robin, Sanji v1, or Kung Fu Luffy). Not everyone has the patience and/or time to keep rerolling forever!
- Reroll your account on Nox until you get Akainu v2 (Int), Whitebeard/Marco dual unit, Sabo v2 (Dex), Capone (Int), or Kata v2 (Psy – out on May 25th) from single sugo pulls (not on the beginner sugo, but on any other sugo that is currently up), and then proceed to reroll on the Straw Hat Retry mail for either the G4 v2 + Sanji v2 combo (more recommended since the Snakeman Super Evolution will be out on May 25th), or the G4 v2 + Legend Nami combo (still exceptional). Expect to save your gems once you’re done with the reroll process and pull only on good sugofests like Kata v2 (although you don’t need to spend 450 gems on this sugo for guaranteed Snakeman since you already have G4 v2) and French Anniversary (most likely Germa v2 debut).
