Onmyoji Beginner Guide

0

Recently Onmyoji just launched the game in the West, I have saw a couple of videos from YouTube guiding Beginners, and I thought there are more information that a beginner should know.

As a player from Asia, the strategies of the game have been really matured in China, so I thought I could to make a summary in English that you should know as a beginner to help you enjoy the game. 🙂

Beautiful Kacho Fugetsu Wallpaper which I must put it on the first page~

Darumas

First, there are 4 different kinds of Darumas to help you strengthens your Shikigamis (Sorry, I couldn’t find the English names of the eggs, so I’ll just call them by their colours in order to distinguish them)

Red Egg (招福達摩)Basically the most useless egg in Onmyoji, it doesn’t give you a lot of experience to strengthen your Shikigami, and it will be a waste of money by strengthening the red eggs as well. The ways of using Red Egg will be mentioned below.
I saw some players upgraded the Red Egg to max level, I can tell you that is a waste of materials and money. Do not do that!
Save the Red Eggs for White Eggs, Blue Eggs, or N cards.
White Egg (奉為達摩)White egg requires half of the experience compare to regular Shikigamis, it will be a lot easier to upgrade the white eggs to 3★, 4★, or even 5★. You can feed Red Egg to White Egg as White Egg costs less experience. Or by feeding 4 Red Eggs to a Blue Egg, and feed the Blue Egg to a White Egg, this will immediately bring you a 3★ Lv. Max White Egg (You have to upgrade the 2★ Shikigami first before 3★ Lv. Max show up) .
Most of the time, you could get 2★White Eggs, but don’t upgrade your Shikigamis with 2★ White Egg as this would be a waste of resources. Instead, you could upgrade 2★ Shikigami with 2★ N card. It is best to upgrade the white eggs until they are 4★ or even 5★ before using.
Blue Egg (大吉達摩)Blue Egg is the egg that truly provides you the EXP in order to strengthen your Shikigamis. The best way to use the Blue Egg is by feeding a Red Egg to raise its level to Lv. 8.
With a Lv. 8 Blue Egg, you could level up your 2★ Shikigami to just about right at Lv. 20.
You could definitely feed 2 Red Eggs to a Blue Egg, the Blue Egg will be raised to Lv. 12, but that is kind of wasting the materials, as Lv. 12 Blue Egg gives you too much EXP, it is more than enough to reached its maximum level.
!!!UPDATE!!!If you’re using the Blue Egg on a White Egg, you may upgrade the Blue Egg to Lv. 12 by using 3 Red Eggs. By using a Lv. 12 Blue Egg on a 2★ Shikigami, your Shikigami will Lv. 20 Max immediately, and there are excess EXP that has not been shown up yet before you upgrade the Shikigami to 3★. By upgrading it to 3★, you will get a Lv. 25 Max with no doubt. You may save Blue Eggs by using it to promote White Eggs in this way.
Black Egg (御行達摩)The most precious egg in the game. Black egg helps you to upgrade the skill level of the Shikigamis. Players could get Black Eggs from event or shop.
*REMEMBER* do not feed the Black Egg to R or SR, as duplicate R or SR Shikigamis can be get easily.
Save the Black Eggs for SSRs!

Shikigami

After introducing the eggs, it is time to introduce Shikigamis that you should train up as a Beginner!

(R) Shikigami

Zashiki WarashiZashiki Warashi is a very useful Shikigami, it sacrifices 30% of her current HP to gain 2 orbs, you can see players often use her in the Battle as it can provide you orbs steadily every turn. Plus, it’s an R Shikigami, skills can be upgraded to max. easily.
In China, Zashiki Warashi has a nickname called “lighter”, cause she provides fire (orbs) XD
Definitely a MUST to train up!
YamausagiYamausagi’s Bunny Dance (awakened skill) that raises the move bar 30% of the allies (increase speed), which means you may have the chance to take action before the enemy does.
Taking action before your enemy is the key of Onmyoji, Chinese players have a saying that “speed is everything in the game”. When you reached to higher levels in Battle, usually you and your opponent has the main Shikigamis that could kill the opponent’s team with one shot, and that is why speed is so important later in the game, as the ones who has a higher speed gets to take action first.
The same as R Zashiki Warashi, it is a R Shikigami and could definitely max. skills easily!
KusaKusa’s main skills is healing which helps your team to heal during battles, some higher players may still use Hotarugusa later in the game. Players are recommended to train up Hotarugusa before they get SR Ebisu or SSR Kachou Fugetsu
ShozuWater Circuit (awakened skill) connects the whole team, damage can be spread among all allies, which helps you to have the whole team remain in the battle longer. Plus the skills could restore 5% of Shozu’s HP after the ally’s turn.
A very useful Shikigami that is often used in the Battle, and the same thing, max. skills easily!

(SR) Shikigamis

UbumeUbume is the strongest SR Shikigami of all, as it has a passive skills which it has 30% of chance to make an extra move to attack while ally is using normal attack, that means Ubume is able to move even when it’s not her turn! So the chance of attack increased while Ubume is in your team!
Usually players without any SSRs upgrade Ubume as their main attacker.
Ubume is most likely one of the SR Shikigami that players are willing to upgrade it to 6★ other than SSR! Beginners should DEFINITELY train up Ubume!
EbisuEbisu is probably the No. 1 healing Shikigami in the game. The healing skills is different than other Shikigamis, he could summon a carp banner, the banner could recover a certain amount of HP whenever it is your allies’ turn. The carp banner only consumes 2 orbs but has the ability of long lasting in the battle (even Ebisu died in the battle, but as long the carp banner has HP remaining, it could still remain in the battle provide constant healing). Plus, it has the ability to remove debuff.
Ebisu is a very practical Shikigami and players should focused on training up Ebisu if you ever get it!
KamaitachiKamaitachi is an advanced version of (R) Yamausagi. Kamaitachi’s main skills could increase 25% ATK, raises the move bar max. by 30%, and 20% of RES for 2 turns! As I have mentioned before, raising the move bar could help you take action earlier than your opponent, and it will be the key to win in Battle later in the game.
Players could gather shards to summon Kamaitachi by using the Challenge ticket in Chapter 18.
Players should definitely focused on training up Kamaitachi as well!
MomoMomo is as well a healing Shikigami, and the greatest part of Momo is that she would be able to heal all allies after a critical hit, and she is also able to revive allies to prevent your team from losing teammates.
Her healing skills have great connection with her own HP, have to focus on increasing her HP and critical hit %.
Momo is a very practical Shikigami, players can easily get Momo from Chapter 8 by using Challenge tickets, and it is not hard to max skills.

(SSR) Shikigami

If you are lucky enough to summon an SSR Shikigami, focus on training up! SSR’s Shikigami could act as a very good attacker/supporter in your team.

Each of the SSR has their values, if you really want to train up, just train them up!

There is one exception that I personally do not recommend training…

RyomenPlayers could train up Ryomen if they like, but the other purpose of Ryomen is to return it back to the Shrine (on the right). By returning Ryomen back to the shrine, in return you will receive 500 blue tickets.

Shrine

(Picture from Onmyoji Wiki)

There are 2 types of tickets that you could obtain from the Shrine after returning the Shikigami , the blue ticket and gold ticket (Please let me know what is the official English name of the tickets). Different rarity of Shikagami values differently.

R Shikigamis5 Blue Tickets
SR Shikigamis100 Blue Tickets(Except Kamaitachi and some specific Shikigamis –> 35 Blue Tickets )
SSR Shikigamis10 Gold Tickets + 750 Blue Tickets(Except Ryomen –> 500 Blue Tickets)

Tickets are very useful in exchange of rare and useful materials. For example, there is a limited event currently happening in Asia Server.

!!!REMINDER!!!

Duplicate SSRs are recommended to return it back to the Shrine, as Gold Tickets can only be achieved by returning SSRs, and there is the chance of getting SSRs you have not collected by using the Shrine in the future event.

Black egg is recommended for upgrading skills level of SSR.

With 20 Gold Tickets, you will be able to get a random SSR. (*Limited Event*)

With 2 Gold Tickets +  5250 Blue Tickets, you can get an selected SSR of your choice (You will be able to get either Yoto Hime, Shishio, Kacho Fugetsu, Aoandon, Ichimoku Ren or Enma for this current event) (*Limited Event*)

With 1500 Blue Tickets, you can get a Black Egg which helps you to upgrade your Shikigami’s skill level. A very precious material.

With 1200 Blue Tickets will get a 5 star White Egg, and 200 Blue Tickets for 4 star White egg.

With 200 Blue Tickets, you can choose the type and position of soul of your choice (the one on the right)

Most of the SRs worth 100 blue tickets

Rs worth 5 blue tickets

And the interface will look  like that when you are about to return the Shikigami back to the Shrine.

Gold & Jades

Gold is very important in Onmyoji other than jades. Players need money to purchase souls from Shop, and each 6★ soul cost up to 480K. Here’s some tips of how players could earn significant amount of Gold.

1.      Wanted Quest (Access by pressing the Seal bubble above Kohaku)

You may want to finish the Wanted Quest every day, it would tell you the number of specific Shikigamis you should hunt. Once you have achieved it, it will give you Shards and Gold (About 10K – 30K) as a reward each mission you have completed. Sometimes you may even get 30 Jades or Souls Boost Up instead of Gold.

The Wanted Quest update twice at a certain time each day.

2.      Kraken

You may have the chance of discovering Kraken after you have finished exploring in the chapters. Players have to consume 30 Staminas in order to participate in this event.

Although it consumes large amount of Stamina, in return it gives you Gold (Around 10K) and rare Souls. Highly recommend players to use Gold and EXP Boost Up during Kraken to earn double EXP and Gold

3.      Purchase Gold by using Jades

Jades are not only used to summon Shikigami, you could also use it to purchase bundles from the Mall. Enter Mall, then Misc Shop, Players will be able to purchase Gold Packages by using Jades.

50 Jades –> 50,000 Gold50,000 Gold / 50 Jades
= 1000 Gold per Jade
100 Jades –> 110,000 Gold110,000 Gold / 100 Jades
= 1,100 Gold per Jade
1000 Jades –> 1,200,000 Gold
(!!!RECOMMENDED!!!)
1,200,000 Gold / 1000 Jades
= 1,200 Gold per Jade

As you may see from the above table, purchasing 1000 Jades Money Package brings you the most benefits among the 3 Gold Packages.

If players who are out of money, 1000 Jades Money Package is recommended to be purchased.

Players could sometimes purchase Gold from Demon Encounter by using 50 Jades for 80,000 Gold, it  would be a better deal than purchasing it from the Mall . Players are highly recommended to purchase it whenever they see it.

For Players who wish to summon Shikigamis, 11 mysterious amulets + 10,000 Gold Bundle is recommended.

1000 Jades → 11 Mysterious Amulets + 10,000 Gold(!!!RECOMMENDED!!!)1000 Jades / 11 Mysterious Amulets= 90.9 = ~91 Jades per Mysterious Amulets

Each regular Jade Summon costs 1000 Jades, purchasing 11 Mysterious Amulets + 10,000 Gold Package saves some of your Jades.

Mysterious Amulets

Mysterious Amulets is an essential tool that is used to summon Shikigamis, and players actually have the chance of getting 3 Free Mysterious Amulets per week.

  1. Sharing your Shikigami Collection

I’m not sure whether this function is available in Global server or not, but players can try to share their Shikigami Collection on FaceBook or Twitter in order to obtain a Free Mysterious Amulet. Every player have a chance to obtain a Free Mysterious Amulet by sharing it per week.

Go to Collection on the left hand side of the menu
