FIRE EMBLEM HEROES: CASTLE EDITION

Hello! My name is /u/darkdogdemon. You might know me for my puns, or my unit builds, or my overall amazing personality that everyone adores and loves, and therefore reading this piece knowing you will have a good time.

Or maybe you just hate my guts and are reading this to find a stupid spelling error I make and then type it out in the comments.

Regardless, welcome to a discussion on the possible castles of tomorrow! In this post I will be discussing new and cool castle designs, concepts, and abilities that could be added into the game without breaking the game by any means and while also being attractive for IS to produce.

In order to do this though, I have to make some things clear (my authority to write this post, and the non-TL;DR version of each castle criteria) before I can begin. Therefore, the next page will be a Table of Contents so you can easily navigate to what you want to read. I also have no idea how to do that tab thing on the left side, so…. yeah.

Enjoy my hard work that I slaved over for 4 days!…

… Actually no I’ve been just playing Echoes and forgetting to check Reddit. I now hate mages.

Sincerely, darkdogdemon (AKA DDD, DarkDoge, Doge, or The Pun King)

MY CREDENTIALS:

For those of you who actually have no idea who I am, this section is for you.

For starters, this is not my first post about speculation of the future. I wrote 4 posts on how to build units that weren’t released in the game as of the point I wrote them (Navarre, Xander, Camus (he still isn’t in the game), and Zephiel).

I am also a Fire Emblem Heroes Reddit Wiki Contributor, as in I help fix and add to the Reddit’s Wiki (I’m sure many of you never even knew that existed, here’s a link)

As for in-game credentials, I am currently in Rank 18, and I score 4800+ on my Arena Offense 90% of the time. Now, for those of you that are not in Rank 18 (or are and haven’t gotten their deathless run yet), that is not very impressive at all and I’m going to get demoted back to Rank 17 next week, BUT I’m sure someone who’s reading this and thinks that Arena score is everything will call me out in the comments, so I thought I’d just say it here.

A couple of other things to mention:

  1. I have no waifus. I know, I’m a heathen, please don’t burn me at the stake.
  1. I hate Alfonse for no reasons other than his highlights and the fact that you can’t make a pun with his name. NOTE: I know, Sharena doesn’t really have any rhymes either, but she friendzones and fucks loves owls, so she’s cool.
  1. I like to look at everything from everyone’s perspective. You’ll see this with the castle builds and criteria. In my opinion, you can’t understand a person’s thinking until you step into their shoes, so by seeing someone’s side or thinking, I can then either agree or disagree with their thought process and make an appropriate rebuttal. Hence, you will never see me comment “no u wrong I is right stoopid”.
  1. I Paypal people to give me compliments
  1. I appreciate all feedback, so please leave some! Even if it’s mean (although my heart will be broken, </3)

CASTLE CRITERIA:

Each castle I suggest in this document must follow the following rules:

  1. It has to make sense. By this, I mean it has to be reasonable to a certain degree. I’m not going to suggest a castle that allows everyone to pull Hector with a 100% chance on the first orb: that’s ridiculous.
  1. IS (Intelligent Systems) have to want to add it into the game. Using the example above for this point as well: IS would never add this into the game for three major reasons. Firstly, everyone would have Hector, making the game extremely boring since Hector can complete 90+% of the game by himself. Secondly, for some people, Hector may be their “white whale”, or the unit they’ve spent money on but can never obtain: allowing them to immediately get this unit will cut their potential orb purchases. Thirdly, and most importantly, even if this castle costed 200 orbs, IS would be losing money over time. IS losing money = bad castle.
  1. The player wants to own the castle. Why make a castle that’s useless to the player, such as that 100% chance castle but with, I don’t know, Alfonse instead of Hector? No one will use orbs to buy it (since Alfonse is and will always be just a bench warmer), which means IS would be wasting time to begin with in designing and producing the castle.
  1. The castle is not game breaking. Opposite of the Hector example above, the castle cannot make the game stupidly easy or broken.
  1. The castle is not offensive. This is more design-wise based than concept based. The designs have to be as non-offending as possible, so no one gets the wrong idea and think Fire Emblem is about an offensive topic, like, I don’t know, Incest (FE4/8), Racism (FE9/10), Pirate Booty (FE15), or, worst of all, Bad Story (FE14, fite me irl).
  1. The castle is obtainable by all players. Yeah yeah, F2P memes, whatever. I personally do not care about F2P/P2P topics, since I believe everyone regardless of financial status can be good at this game, but the castles cannot be too expensive for people to spend orbs on OR too cheap that P2P players are offended by the prices.

FIRST CASTLE DESIGN: SP BOOST

Description: Buying this castle would supply a 1/2/3 point gain to SP when fighting enemy units.

Orb Pricing: 10/15/20 orbs

Design: Similar to the 2x EXP castle, the castle would take the same shape, but go from somewhat dark red to white in color scheme because of the decreased amount of enemies that need to be killed while farming.

Reasoning: So, I’m sure some of you will be thinking to yourselves that the 3rd upgrade is broken. After all, 3 SP -> 6 SP would mean that the user has to play much less in order to level up a certain character. However, currently, at 99 stamina, if one was use one specific unit at level 40 to kill every single enemy on 4-man teams of Stratum 8-10, then that unit can only get 132 SP at a time before running out of stamina, which isn’t a whole lot. By changing that to 6,  that number is doubled to 264, which is way more SP in total but still requires more stamina overall, since 264 SP will not level up all the skills the unit has when going through a SI makeover. Also, by making the respective prices 10/15/20 orbs, a total of 45 orbs (which is 9 summons at 5 orbs a piece, 11 if all colored orbs were used in each session) would be spent, which is not a small price to pay for F2P players and isn’t insulting to P2P players. IS would most likely see an increase in purchases overall from people who don’t want to wait to get orbs over time in order to receive this boon and feel very little downfall since people will still be playing / addicted to the game.

Note: If this was made, IS would most likely remove the time-based event of gaining 2x SP, since theoretically getting 518 SP per full stamina bar is too much.

SECOND CASTLE DESIGN: FRIEND BOOST

Description: Buying this castle would supply a 2x/4x/6x/8x/10x feather gain from logging in daily

Orb Pricing: 2/4/8/10/15 orbs

Design: This castle won’t have a fowlish feel to it throughout it’s upgrades (Cause birds and feathers and its friendly and not evil and give me a break I tried). Perhaps the banners on the sides could have logos of birds or different colored feathers, the logo on the carpet could be replaced with a heart symbolizing friendship, and the design on the glowing stone thing on the bottom-left could be made into a heart instead. Maybe even Feh could get an upgrade to it’s stick, perhaps by giving him a proper cage which is pink and with a heart on it.

Reasoning: At this point, we recieve 15 feathers a day, not including any log-in bonuses gotten through clicking on Feh. That means we would need to wait about… 1,333 days to ever get 20K feathers in total, and 133 days to just get 2K. That’s a long, long time for both. By upgrading that amount to 150 (15 X 3), we can obtain 2K feathers in a little less than 2 weeks, and 20K feathers in 133 days. This boost in feather amount would expedite the ranking-up process overall, which would help all players regardless of fiscal standing. IS would also see an increase in orb purchasing since, after all, 39 orbs in total is no small amount, and it wouldn’t have a heavy effect on future sales.

Note: If this was made, IS would most likely remove random daily gifts of 100 feathers.

THIRD CASTLE DESIGN: ORB CHANCE BOOST

Description: Buying this castle would supply a 1/2/3/4/5% increase in the chance of seeing a certain color of orb when summoning.

Orb Pricing: 4/8/12/16/20 orbs

Design: Similar to the 2x EXP castle, the castle would take the same shape, but change colors to variants of the specific color of the orb color which has higher rates.

Reasoning: There’s something I want to address here: this would not affect the chances of you getting a certain unit / five stars, only the chance of seeing the color orb when summoning. Hopefully that clears the air a bit, cause if misread, this seems broken when in reality it’s not. That being said, some of you will still claim this is something IS would never do because they would be losing money over time: after all, more chances to summon the character you want = less likely chances of not getting them = less orbs spent = less money spent. However, I want to point out that, at best, there is a 5% increase in seeing a certain color, which, if you do the math, is not that helpful.

MATH: If my math is correct (if its not, it doesn’t really matter, the point is the same), there are a total of 110 units you can summon in the SOV2 banner. Of those 110 units, 36 are red, 25 are blue, 20 are green, and 29 are gray. Theoretically, that means that an orb has a 36/110 chance of being red, 25/110 chance of being blue, 20/110 chance of being green, and a 29/110 chance of being gray. 5% of 110 is 5.5. Because the denominator cannot change, the other 3 numerators have to be reduced by an equal amount that totals 5% – AKA, 1.67% or about 1.837.

For example, normally, 36/110 = 32.7%, 25/110 = 22.7%, 20/110 = 18.2%, and 29/110 = 26.4% (all of those are approximations, of course). If we had the fully upgraded castle for green orbs, the chance of getting a green orb becomes 25.5/110, or 23.2%, whereas the other numbers would become 31.1%, 21.1%, and 24.7% approximately and respectively.

TL;DR – an approximately 5% increase in the chance of seeing a specific orb color, while reducing the other 3 by approximately 1.6%, does not make a big difference overall.

Reasoning Continued: If you looked at the math (or just don’t care about my hard work and read the TL;DR, you butt), you can see why IS would actually want to add this castle into the game. The concept seems so alluring to most players that they’d not only spend more money to get orbs to purchase the castle itself, but then they’d spend more orbs summoning for their favorite characters with little to no increase in the chance of them succeeding. The player still wants this castle though because it is a small increase of getting a specific color, and, while it’s really expensive at 60 orbs, people will buy orbs for it.

Note: IS would most likely make 4 versions of the castle for each color orb, all of which would have the same pricing.

I guess this was co-written by Taylor Swift because there’s a lot of Blank Space…

FOURTH CASTLE DESIGN: QUEST COMPLETION REWARD

Description: Buying this castle would supply 100/200/300/400/500 feathers when a column of quests are completed

Orb Pricing: 1/2/4/8/10 orbs

Design: This castle would be somewhat like a trophy room, where each touchable relic/statue/bird/notice-board would be transformed into trophies, and each column would have small shelves with even smaller easter eggs from previous FE games.

Reasoning: A lot of quests provided to the player are not finished because of their rewards. Orbs, feathers, and helpful items are always welcomed, but most quests involving badges, shards or crystals are not on high priority because the rewards aren’t as enticing. To make those rewards more enticing, if a player equips this castle and completes an entire column of quests,  they receive an extra bonus of feathers. This gets players to play the game more for the extra rewards, which keeps IS’s retention rate higher for a very miniscule price. It’s also cheap at 26 orbs, so F2P players can enjoy its benefits quicker.

Note: If this was made, I’d would have to assume only the final quest in the column would have to be completed with the castle equipped for the reward. However, that is up to IS’s programming.

FIFTH CASTLE DESIGN: HERO MERIT BOOST

Description: Buying this castle would supply a 1.2x/1.4x/1.6x/1.8x/2.0x increase in Hero Merit

Orb Pricing: 2/4/8/10/15 orbs

Design: Similar to the 2x EXP castle, the castle would take the same shape, but with a lavender color scheme cause frankly I’m running out of ideas and I like the color lavender.

Reasoning: Right now, by surviving the 10th Stratum with 5 enemies, a unit obtains 5.00 Hero Merit. A friendly unit would need to do the 10th Stratum 400 times in order to get to the maximum amount of 2000. However, with this castle, a unit would obtain 10 Hero Merit each term, reducing the amount of times the 10th Stratum needs to be done from 400 to 200. That would be a nice boon to the player, and while it’s somewhat expensive at 39 orbs, people would still purchase it in order to cut down on the amount of work that needs to be done overall, and IS wouldn’t be losing much since people would still be playing the game for a long amount of time.

Note: This is probably the only castle that doesn’t need a note. But there’s one here anyway. If you have a problem with that, then perhaps you should type in the comments, quote “u is dumb 4 having tht note” so I know who to not respond to. Thanks!

SIXTH CASTLE DESIGN: SWAG

Description: Buying this castle would do nothing. Absolutely nothing. It is merely for showing off, and has no purpose other than that.

Orb Pricing: 100 orbs

Design: Similar to the 2x EXP castle, the castle would take the same shape, but everything would be various shades of gold. The carpet would be red, the walls/columns/ground would be gold with a shine to it, and Feh would have a royal crown on his head as he rightfully deserves.

Reasoning: If I see one fucking comment on “that last build was such a disgusting troll” or “What happened to being F2P friendly you dumbo” in the comment section I will lose my goddamn mind more than I have already You may ask yourself “well, who’d want this?” However, you have to look at it from the perspective of others with money rather than your own. Think of seeing a Ferrari on the street. The person who bought that Ferrari did not need to buy a Ferrari: they could have bought a small sedan or something for way less and got similar benefits. However, they bought the Ferrari because you noticed it on the street to begin with: they are showing off their wealth. This castle is made for showing off: nothing more, nothing less. 100 orbs is cheap enough that people with money will spend cash to purchase it for the exclusivity, and because it has no effects other than looking cool, no one will cry over being unable to obtain it or that the price is too high…

… Well, people are going to cry anyway, but they have no reasons behind their cries. Insert “wah wah waaaahhhhh” soundbite here

Note: If this was made, IS could raise the price to 150 orbs and make it a limited time purchase only to make even more money.

CONCLUSION:

I first want to thank you all for reading: I spent a lot of time writing this, and I hope it was an enjoyable read.

I also want to mention that, like I said before, all feedback is welcome. Even bad feedback is absolutely acceptable, as long as you are up for possibly disagreeing feedback of your feedback from me. Feedbackception

Lastly, while I make fun of comments throughout this post, I have seen too many people I consider incredibly bright analyzers and commenters losing their love for the game and the Reddit community because of awful feedback from people. Even the most tolerant people succumb to comments that not only ignore point after point of positive criticism from the OP but also continuously insult the OP. While I myself have not come into contact with said comments, I feel like I have to make mention that they do exist.

People like me make these kinds of posts to help you, the reader, in one way or another. Unit builds, banner analyses, possible future additions to the game, data analytics, and more all are made with the idea to not only help the reader with ingame decision making, but to also entertain the reader with a different perspective than what they were thinking and possibly humor. I know that, sometimes, seeing things from a perspective not your own is difficult, and in no means do I say that your perspective is either right or wrong, but if you do disagree with what the OP is saying, then just reply with respect and with an open mind. No one, especially the people who spent hours if not days of work to help others, deserve disrespect, and they especially don’t deserve to try to express their helpful opinions on someone with closed ears but an open mouth.

I love this community and it’s people, especially my fellow wiki members (we really need to get back to work) and others who make fabulous analysis posts. I don’t want to see any of them rage and leave because of people who do exactly what I said not to do, and, franky, the community shouldn’t either.

Sighs Now that the rant is done, I think this conclusion can finally conclude. Thank you again for reading!
