Awoken Pandora Guide
Leader Pairings
Awoken Pandora
In general you’ll want to pair A.Pandora with herself. Your sub pool will be limited to Devils in order to get the 1.25x to all stats but there is enough depth in the devil subs to mitigate this drawback. A.Pandora offers a great amount of flexibility with her damage output and orb usage. For most row-based leads you need a full row of orbs to trigger their multiplier but for A.Pandora (and the whole heroes parthenon) the multiplier will scale up from 4 to 8 orbs. This can make A.Pandora much less orb hungry on trash floors while also giving her the ability to chip through damage shields without too much difficulty.
Another benefit from running double A.Pandora is the double heart-making actives that every team starts out with. This ability paired with 1.25x RCV & HP buff from each leader can help A.Pandora teams take big hits while being able to heal back up with just a few hearts. Devils, in general, have terrible RCV so a full slate of plusses will be needed for this team to start feeling tanky. Even without the tank aspect of this team, the damage it puts out is consistent and usually enough to sweep through most descends.
Awoken Archdemon Lucifer
If your friends list is low on A.Pandoras, you could pair with A.Lucifer. You lose the flexibility to attack with less than 6 orbs and your 7 or 8 orb burst is a bit mitigated but you gain A.Lucifer’s pure damage active and his god killer awakening. Lucifer brings a little better RCV and HP multiplier but his active can be a liability on floors where you don’t need the pure damage.
When you’re trying to put together an all attribute team and you don’t have a good white sub to work in, Lucifer can make a fine pairing with Pandora. After their four colors you only need to account for green and blue and there are plenty of subs that could fit those slots.
Subs
The ideal sub pool for A.Pandora can vary based on the type of challenge the dungeon presents. Since A.Pandora herself brings in an orb change and heart making ability, her sub choices open up to board changers, spikers and other utility subs. In general, a good pandora team won’t usually need a spiker since the damage output from 10+ row awakenings and 16x multiplier will be well into the millions, but for damage checks like those seen in the arena, they may be necessary. Bind clearing is generally not an issue with Pandora teams since both leaders bring a bind clearing awakening. Leader binds or dark binds may require a dedicated sub but, luckily, pandora has some excellent options available. In most cases your sub pool will consist of fast orb changers and one or two board changers.
For the most part you’ll want your subs to exclusively be devils in order to take advantage of Pandora’s stat buff to devils. In some rare cases it might make sense to bring in a non-devil sub when your pool is limited or the sub just brings too many positives to the table to ignore (Eschamali). For the purposes of this guide, I’ll focus on the devil subs.
Board Changers
One Eyed Black Beast Demon, Zuoh – A
Arguably the best board changer for Pandora. Not only does he make black orbs, but he also makes green and red orbs which can be comboed with a Pandora active or Akechi for massive damage. He also brings a dragon killer awakening and the all important skill bind resist. His prong awakening can also help with damage control on damage shield monsters. The main drawback of Zuoh is his 0 RCV, difficult skill-up material and his rarity as a godfest exclusive. These two drawbacks may make Haku a better option for some people.
One important note on the arena, LKali should not be a problem for a dark-based Pandora team but when a DKali comes up, Zuoh’s Dragon Killer awakening really starts to shine. So for the arena he is hands down the best board changer Pandora can find.
Banishing Claw Byakko, Haku – A
Haku brings an excellent board change that pairs perfectly with Akechi making a dark & heart board that will one shot just about anything. Her awakenings pair well with Pandora and her easy skill-up path make her an excellent choice.
The main drawbacks for Haku is her lack of a skill bind resist and her wasted fire and water orb enhance awakening.
Armored Batman – B
This collab exclusive is made for Awoken Pandora. He brings some of the highest weighted stats in the game, decent recovery, great HP and great attack. In addition he brings two rows, a physical killer and a skill bind resist. Oh yea, and he also makes a board that works perfectly with pandora (or by himself) and brings a haste. His major drawback is that you can’t use him with Akechi to get a ⅔ enhanced dark board. So if he is your primary board changing burst, you may need his active and two others to get your big damage.
Dark Knight, Cecil – B
Cecil does not bring any rows or orb enhance awakenings but he bring a monster attack and respectable recovery. He’s also a heart maker that can pair well with Grisar or even Persephone. Just like Batman, Cecil does not work with Akechi for a ⅔ dark board so if you’re running him as a sub you’ll have to plan out your burst strategy a bit.
Dark Bell Star Angel, Lumiel – C
She’s a devil, she changes the entire board, she can synergize with Akechi or Pandora and she brings single-target pure damage. Her awakenings aren’t the best for A.Pandora but if she’s the best board change you’ve rolled then bring her along because she’s not that bad of an option.
Hollow, Ichigo Kurosaki – C
Not the worst board changer you could have. He makes hearts and can synergize with another orb converter for a descent burst. His god killer awakening and good stats can help as well.
Marvelous Red Dragon Caller, Sonia – C
Although she’s not a primary dark card, RSonia still gets a nod because she brings a board change, has decent awakenings and is probably already hypermaxed in a lot of boxes. If you’re lacking board changers she might be a good stop-gap until you can find something better.
Mistress of the Old Castle, Kali – C
Halloween Kali brings great stats and a full board change that can be paired with a Pandora active to take out most early-floor monsters. Because the amount of devils that can convert a full board is limited if you have a Halloween Kali she maybe be your best bet. Her recovery should not be overlooked since it can help fill in the gap if your sub pool is lacking.
Loyal Demon Prince, Cauchemar – D
While not on color, he brings a full board change that could work with both Pandora and Akechi, devil typing and damage reduction. For a farmable option he’s not completely terrible.
Orb Converters
Deliberate Rebel, Akechi Mitsuhide – A
Akechi is pretty much the starting point for any Pandora team. He brings well rounded stats, a double orb change and good awakenings. Paired with Haku or Zuoh, he gives any Pandora team all the burst it needs to take down just about anything. With Pandora’s double haste, it is feasible to use Akechi twice during most dungeons.
The main drawback for Akechi is his abysmal skill-up rate. On average it will take 60 dogs to get him to max level and since they are a rare spawn in a bi-weekly dungeon, you’ll be spending thousands of stamina skilling him up. His stats and number of awakenings are also lacking but since this is not an ultimate evolution it is to be expected.
Cruel Bleak Night Goddess, Pandora – A
Recovery is generally the main problem for any Pandora team simply because Devil’s usually have low RCV rates. Cruel Pandora is an exception to that rule with her 659 RCV that will help any Pandora team feel more more tanky. She’s much easier to obtain than a Claire and brings the dark and heart making active as well. This version of Pandora also has a much easier skill-up path allowing you to save Pys for other higher-value targets. Her stats are also some of the highest weighted stats of all the devils.
The main drawback with this Pandora is the fact that you’ll have three monsters converting the same orbs on your team, making those critical situations where 8 orbs are needed for the full 16x modifier somewhat dependent on a good board or a full-board changer.
It is important to note that if you are lucky enough to have a Claire on your team, the recovery that this Pandora brings to your team is not as critical as it is without Claire. If you have a Claire, this version gets a B and Awoken Pandora gets an A. If you’re also running A.Lucifer on your team his recovery can fill the gap as well allowing you to bring Awoken Pandora over this version.
Update: A new wrinkle to the awoken/UUVO Pandora debate is the recent buff that allows UUVO pandora to make enhanced hearts. That alone keeps her on my teams 95% of the time over another awoken Pandora. When you take into consideration this Pandora’s recovery, one turn shorter cooldown and synergy with Claire the haste and extra hitpoints that A.Pandora provides is not so significant.
Black-Winged Goddess, Valkyrie Claire – A
The holy grail of director’s choice pulls. She’s easy to skill up, has great RCV, a quick heart to dark change and two rows. Summer Claire is better if you need the skill bind resist. If not, the enhanced heart awakening will make plus hearts will, in turn, become plus dark orbs. She is a 6 star pull that is never featured in godfests or galas so good luck landing one.
Bronzed Beauty, Valkyrie Claire – A
An amazing sub for Pandora. Better than the standard Valkyrie if you’re short on skill bind resists and tans. She has an easy skill up path, great recovery and a nice pair of …. row awakenings. Her main drawback is her status as a 8 star collab exclusive. JP got her in the MP shop for 300k so if she comes to the NA shop when Beach rolls around again she might be a good investment for the serious Pandora player.
Judging Scale Steel Star Goddess, Eschamali – B
In general a Pandora team should focus on devils. Eschamali (and Yomi Dragon) are the exceptions to that rule. Eschamali just brings so much to the table that it is hard to ignore her on any Pandora team. Her amazing active and seven orb enhances will add a lot of utility and damage to a Pandora team. Now that you can skill her up with dark jewels she’s even better. Her main drawbacks, besides not being a devil, is her status as a six star godfest exclusive and her 10 turn cooldown.
Psychopomp of Oblivion, Grisar – B
I consider Grisar/Elia the “gear check” of any serious PAD player. Before multiplayer came around, skilling them up was the labor of the clinically insane. Now that they are easily farmable in multiplayer dungeons, skilling them up is a bit easier but it comes at the steep price of 15 skill ups. If you can get Grisar to max skill he brings a monster 2k attack, a 7 turn orb change with haste, an all-important skill bind resist and two rows. It is possible to use Grisar and Loki to break the defense on a predra (10 million). You’ll need a good Akechi board and +99 attack eggs on Grisar but it is possible. The main drawback for Grisar is that he converts light orbs that are already being converted by Pandora (to hearts) so they might not be as plentiful as one would hope.
Bleak Night Daughter, Pandora – B
Once this was the best version of Pandora that you could get. The awoken and super ult forms have passed her by but this is still a respectable sub for Awoken Pandora. Her positives and drawbacks are similar to the super ult pandora.
Awoken Pandora – B
Pandora can act as a pretty good sub for herself. You get a haste and three rows but you lose the recovery that the super ult and beach version bring to the team. When you consider the fact that you can only skill up this Pandora with pys you’re probably better off with the super ult version 90% of the time. However, if you have a Claire or Lucifer on your team, recovery isn’t that big of an issue for you so the haste, hp and extra row will bring this version of Pandora up to an A.
Awoken Persephone – B
Awoken Persephone can fill a few important roles on a Awoken Pandora team. She brings great recovery to the team, has a heart breaking active and brings a two turn dark skyfall. Zaerog Infinity has become a staple sub on my A.Pandora team simply because his active can usually get me one or two turns of good boards. A.Persephone can make a good board and then give one or possibly two turns of usable boards. She doesn’t bring any row awakenings to the team but if you’re team is already at 10+ rows, her two enhanced orbs can help add to your damage. Her two enhanced heart awakenings can give your team a bump in recovery and those enhanced hearts will turn to enhanced dark orbs with a Persephone active.
Queen of Condemnation, Persephone – C
A double orb changer with good RCV and an easy skill up path. Her god killer and skill-bind resist are also great additions. Her main drawback is the lack of rows in her awakenings but a Pandora team usually has a good amount of rows so this may not be a deal breaker. Overall, a very good sub for A.Pandora.
Moonlit Prowler, Vampire Lord – C
A good upgrade over the standard Vampire Duke. Either of the Valkyrie’s would be better but getting this vampire should be much easier than tracking down Claire. Just like Claire, he brings some good recovery, an easy skill up path and a nice heartbreaking ability. For farming, or non-hard-hitting dungeons, I would probably rank him higher than Grisar if I had to choose between the two.
Gryps Rider, Vector Finn – C
His stats are somewhat lacking but he brings a row, a skill-bind resist and a fairly quick orb change that somewhat synergizes with Pandora. Now that he can be skilled up in the coin dungeons he might not be a bad placeholder.
Moonlit Shadow, Hattori Hanzo – C
For a fast orb changer, Hattori brings good attack and recovery to a Pandora team. His HP is abysmal and his awakenings are sub-par but having a 5 turn orb changer can help feed orb hungry rows. Once skill inheritance hits NA, Hattori’s value will go up because he’s perfect to equip to someone like Lucifer.
Awoken Anubis – D
Since Anubis converts green, the same orb that Pandora converts, his utility on a Pandora team is limited, He can help take care of jammers and poison orbs so he should not be overlooked but his lack of rows and weak attack keep him from being an elite sub.
Cyclone Devil Dragon – D
A rare blue to black converter with average stats and crap awakenings. He has great synergy with Haku, a low cooldown and skills up fairly easily. For a box that’s low on REM cards, he can be a good addition to a pandora team.
Dark Liege, Vampire Duke – D
An easy farmable devil that fits well on any Pandora team. His awakenings suck and his stats are lacking but for a farming Pandora team, having a five turn heartbreaker can make things go much faster.
If your team is short on skill bind resists, the blue/black version of this monster could be the solution. You’ll be giving up some damage but don’t underestimate how a skill bind can wreck a run. They way RNG works in this game, 80% is roughly equal to 10% so keep that in mind.
Spikers
These rankings are based on when spike is needed. From my experiences (descends through Arena 1) you’ll almost never need a spike on a Pandora team but when the dungeon or your team composition calls for it, Pandora has some good options available.
Awoken Loki – A
Loki is staple for many Arena Pandora builds. He brings a good set of awakenings and nice stats to any team. His active is generally overkill but it at least has a haste so it can help cycle up other actives. His lack of a farmable skill up means you’ll be dumping 4 pys into him (and a lot of plusses) just to take on the Arena.
Soaring Night Goddess of the Dead, Nephthys – A
With her recent buff making her active work for two turns and the fact that she enhances dark orbs while also bringing 4 orb enhance awakenings to the team, Nephthys is arguably better than Loki for pure damage. Her lack of haste and rows are her main drawback but on a team already stacked with 10+ rows her orb enhance and recovery make up for it.
Black Flying Sorceress, Goetia – B (maybe a C)
Goetia is one of those cards that I’ve sold for MP again and again but she keeps coming back asking for another chance. She’s easy to skill up and makes 5 dark orbs with her latest buff. Her stats are still lacking and her awakenings are somewhat lacking. However, there is a point where stacking orb enhance over more rows makes sense (around 10 rows). If nothing else she can bring you five orbs in a pinch and those five orbs can be the difference between two and three rows.
If nothing else, once skill inheritance comes around her active will be one to attach.
Chaotic Flying General, Lu Bu – C
Monster attack, unbindable and a 2.5x devil burst (soon to be 3x) give Lu Bu a place on a pandora team when a Nephthys/Loki are not available. The main drawback is that the burst only lasts one turn and it nukes your health. Lu Bu’s 0 recovery also does not help but with Pandora making hearts the recovery a fully plussed team has, healing back up from 1 is not that big of an issue.
Cymophane Jewel Princess, Sheen – C
Sheen is an interesting addition to the devil roster. She’s a pseudo bind clearer and burst rolled into one. If you’re stacking fingers her burst would be substantial but I don’t know if it would outshine the burst provided by Loki or Nephy. But, if you’re low on SBR awakenings and need a unbindable pseudo bind clearer, Sheen could be a good fit.
Magic Hand Slayer Goddess, Durga – D
A poor man’s Loki/Nephy. Not terrible but not that great either. But I guess if you’re creating an all-girl squad she would fit.
Abyssal Darkdragon, Vritra – D
Three rows and a 1.5x dark buff isn’t terrible. He also brings a skill-bind resist. Kind of like a really poor man’s loki.
Awoken Tsukuyomi – D
Yomi is a hard one to place. Technically he could be considered a spiker but I consider him more of a utility sub since his three time extends can help you consistently clear out most of the board. Yomi lacks rows but he does bring three orb enhances so his additional damage should be okay. He also brings a skill bind resist and pretty good stats. He’s definitely a niche pick.
Utility
Awoken Archdemon Lucifer – A
Lucifer brings great stats, great awakenings and a nice pure damage active to a Pandora team. For the Arena 2 he is staple on most teams but for many descends he is a niche pick. His God Killer awakening can put up insane numbers but it is usually overkill. Pure damage isn’t needed that often and because of that his active can be mediocre. His excellent RCV will help the tankiness of any team and his three skill boost and skill-bind resist are always helpful.
Moonbeam Fang Witch, Lilith – B (possibly an A)
Solid utility with a spike makes Lilith a good option for Pandora teams needing to break armor or lacking another spike. She also brings good recovery, a row and a skill bind resist.
She might be an A class utility sub because she can help deal with resolve monsters and makes clearing Predras much easier than trying to do it with Lucifer.
moonbeam fang witch, lilith – *
Worse than the normal Lilith in almost every way except one, she comes from the REM and that means you can equip her skill onto someone like Claire and you now have a way to deal with Predras in the Arena. (Props to /u/Guhimo for pointing that out.)
Maleficent Phantom Dragon King, Zaerog∞ – B
With Zaerog’s monster stats, low cooldown skyfall active that includes a haste and his great awakenings, he can find himself on a lot of Pandora teams. His main drawback is that he does not bring any row awakenings to the team. His three orb enhances help with damage output and pairs nicely with Akechi’s active but since those OE will likely be the only ones on your team not every black orb will have an enhance.
Batman+S. Gloves Act FB – C
The only dark+devil delay available. His low RCV and sub-par awakenings keep him in the niche category but with some of the resolve bosses out there that don’t have a status shield, delays can be extremely valuable.
Underlord Inferno Hades – D
Gravity can be critical for the Arena’s damage check and Hades can take Loki’s spot while also bringing a god killer awakening to the team and a skill-bind resist. Skilling him up 14 times would be a pain but his decent stats and awakenings would make the effort worth it.
Bind Clearing
Generally not needed since Pandora brings a heart-bind-clear to the table but if you have a leader bind or an all-dark bind these guys can save your bacon.
Spirit of the Masquerade, Alraune – A
Probably the best bind clearer for Pandora. Her 717 recovery, short cooldown, haste and easy skill up path make her a good prize from the halloween machine. Her double skill bind resists should not be overlooked either since they can free up another sub spot.
Thorn Princess, Sleeping Beauty – B
Picking between Sleeping Beauty and Aamir is difficult. Aamir brings better stats and one more turn of bind recovery. Sleeping Beauty has an easier skill up path but the materials are not yet in NA. She brings a skill bind resist and makes hearts. I put her just slightly above Aamir but since I haven’t used either this is really just a guess.
Aamir – B
The upcoming Aamir evo will give Pandora teams a farmable and unbindable bind clearer that also brings a row to the table and some great RCV. For most binds Aamir will be overkill but for full team binds or dark binds, Aamir will be essential for Pandora to survive it. Sleeping Beauty is probably a bit better since she makes hearts and goes down to 6 turns but if you don’t have one, Aamir will more than be a viable replacement.
Skill Inheritance
The players in JP have created some good resources for skill inheritance.
http://altema.jp/pazudora/keisyomonster-18181 (this one is probably the best)
https://www.reddit.com/r/PuzzleAndDragons/comments/4lc7ks/teamdiscussguide_skill_inheritance_on_awoken/ (my discussion on reddit about this topic)
Basically what you’re going to be looking for is how long of a cooldown does the primary skill have, what weaknesses does your team have and how can the new skill synergize with the existing ones.
From my experience, the good Pandora team does not have a lot of weaknesses. Most teams that I run only bring a single board changer so dealing with jammers and poison orbs can be an issue. Most of my teams are also a bit low on recovery so skill inheritance can allow me to bring a better recovery devil with a sub-par active as long as I have a decent skill inherited. This same type of thinking can be applied to dedicated utility monsters like bind clearers. You no don’t have to worry so much about their mostly useless active when you can equip another skill on top of it. Just make sure the bind clearing skill is ready when you need it.
Board Changing Skills for Inheritance
The best board changers will synergize with one of the other orb changers on your team to give you a two color board that’s primarily black while also providing a haste.
Destroyer Dragon, Apocalypse – Change all orbs to Heart, Light & Dark orbs. Reduces cooldown of other skills by 1 turn.
Awoken Meimei – Change all orbs to Wood, Light & Dark orbs. Reduces cooldown of other skills by 1 turn.
Awoken Haku – Change all orbs to Fire, Water & Dark orbs. Reduces cooldown of other skills by 1 turn.
Orb Changing Skills for Inheritance
A good Pandora team doesn’t have a critical need for orb changers. The amount of hastes and the team’s ability to take hits usually means you’ll want to focus more on utility for skill Inheritance. However, if you’re bringing a utility sub or you simply don’t have an ideal team you can patch some holes with skill inheritance.
Shadow Dragon Knight – Change Heart orbs to Dark orbs. Bind recovery for 3 turns.
Awoken Hinokagutsuchi – Reduce enemies’ defense by 75% for 2 turns. Effects carry forward on sweep. Change Water orbs to Fire orbs, Heart orbs to Dark orbs.
Utility Skills for Inheritance
These skills are where the inheritance ability really starts to change the game. Now you can bring a Kanna burst, a Susano shield or a Ra pure damage active without hamstringing your team. I also can’t imagine what a Cameo active would do to the damage Pandora can pump out.
Jade Jewel Princess, Cameo – ATK x1.3 for 1 turn for every Enhanced Wood Attribute, Enhanced Dark Attribute on the team.
Teams
In most of these teams I’m trying to build around a standard template. One board changer, one burst, one utility and one orb converter. The one unique part of building an A.Pandora team is that you have to account for the low recovery on most of her subs. So in one of those slots you need a good recovery sub.
The perfect A.Pandora Team?
It can’t do Arena2 since there’s nothing in place to deal with the predras. Everything else should fall before this team easily enough.
Arena2 A.Pandora Teams:
I’ve never attempted Arena2 but I’ve watched enough videos on the internet to make me an expert at anything. That was a joke. I’m not an expert on the arena (1 or 2) so don’t use these builds as the singular template for success in the arena. I’m just basing them on what I’ve watched.
Bring your A game to burst through the predras. You’ll need a good board to do so but it is possible. If you fail your run is done but when has RNG ever steered you wrong?
Other A.Pandora Teams:
This is the Pandora team I run 99% of the time (because I have no Claire). The only thing outside the arena this team has struggled with is Devil Rush Mythical. Not having a second board changer hurts when you have to deal with poison and jammer orbs flooding the board. I also cleared Arena 1 with this team. It has some trouble dealing with the devil bind on floor 2 from Kaguya-Hime and combo shields and rows are always a bitch but this team has more than enough ways to deal with most of the arena’s tricks.
This team his the magic 10 row and 5 orb enhance awakenings. With two skyfall actives, three hastes, three heart makers, one heart breaker and a nice burst this team has it all.
If you don’t have an Akechi, you can still make a great Pandora team. The damage you pump out when you hit two rows and a 16x multiplier will usually be enough to one shot most bosses. So when you’re building without Akechi, just bring along a burst if you’re worried about your damage and make sure you have the actives to make a two color board for that final burst.
Fully farmable with a board change, two quick orb changers, two heart makers and a poison/spike. Swap in the Blue/Black vampire to bring your skill bind resistance up to 80%. You can also sub in a Z8 or Grisar, but if you can acquire either of those guys, you probably have a REM pull that that fits in as well.
