History of The Real Kumano
Kumano was one of the four Mogami classes, or some people say it to be the second ship of Suzuya class. The ship was laid down on 4th April 1934 at Kawasaki Shipyard Kobe, launched on the 15th October 1936, and completed on 31st October 1937.
The ship was initially armed with 155 millimeters gun mounts but was quickly replaced in 1939. In 1941 the ship was temporarily based in Hainan Island to prepare for the invasions of French Indochina; in 1949, Kumano participated in many invasion landings across the Pacific Ocean. Against the Dutch and the British as well, but depending on the sinking of the British 4z, in 1942, Kumano was in Indian Ocean way and sunk British Steamer, Silk Wars, Lashes, Maida, Shin Khuang, and the American liner Blitzmold.
During the battle of midway, Kumano spotted the American submarine Tambor, and the successor avoided his Torpedo Attack. Between 1942 and 1943, Kumano participated in many large-scale battles such as the Japanese of Burma, the battle of Eastern Solomon, the battle of Santa Cruz, and acted as an escort ship for Tokyo Express. Kumano was destroyed by a USS attack a few years later during Second World War; it sunk in 31 meters of water.
Kumano in Azur Lane
We mentioned earlier that Suzuya and Kumano could be technically classified as a different class of warships from their Mogami counterpart, so in Azur Lane, Suzuya and Kumano are pretty different from Mogami and Mikuma in terms of their visual representations. In fact, on Chinese Wikipedia, Mogami Class and Suzuya class are listed as two different classes. That is why both Kumano and Suzuya are similar to each other but pretty different from Mogami and Mikuma.
Her look and outfit are typically revealing; like most of the characters in Azur Lane, she does not have any voice-over yet, but judging by the dialogues, she seems to be a beautiful and energetic sort of personality.
Kumano Stats
Stats-wise, she follows Suzuya, a pretty decent heavy cruiser, not very spectacular, but just decent.
She has 135%, 145%, and 110% for her main Torpedoes and Anti-Aircraft efficiency; here is the interesting part about Suzuya’s class heavy cruisers, that they are classified as Heavy Cruisers but can equip like cruiser’s gun, this is a feature that Mikuma, Suzuya, and Kumano, all have but only Mogami can not do that. The reason for that is that Mogami has a refit, so for Kumano’s main guns, you can take the 152 millimeters Americans or the British prototype.
If you want to take the Heavy Cruiser guns, you can take 203 MAM SKC. There would not be much of a reason to use these once because what you would want to go for is the Light Cruisers guns will properly relate to her abilities.
For Torpedoes, 433 Millimeters Homing and for Anti-Air 113 millimeters would be good for auxiliary torpedo bulges, and repair kits as well as fire extinguishers.
Kumano Skills
The first skill that Kumano has is called Veil of Knight. This skill is based on the historical fact that Kumano was attacked three times by heavy aircraft.
In the Chinese version, this skill is called No More Than Three. It completely describes its use: after three attacks received, it reduces the damage from any other attack by 8% for the rest of the battle, on the Second, Fourth, and Sixth battles, of each Sortie, 60 seconds after the battle starts, it heals up by 10% of max HP if there are two or more Sakura empire ship in the same fleet.
Her second ability is a unique ability of all Mogami class, and that is AP protections, it reduces AP damage taken by herself by 20%
Her last ability is an all-out assault. It is a Heavy Cruisers Barrage, which is why you wanna bring Light Cruisers guns to trigger the Barrage much faster than with the Heavy Cruisers guns!
